Do I have to audition?
There are no auditions—all submissions will be accepted and incorporated into the virtual choir.
Can anyone participate?
While our goal is to connect Greek Orthodox singers across geographical borders, we would be delighted to see the participation of other Orthodox jurisdictions as well as others with an appreciation for Greek Orthodox choral music. We extend a special welcome to younger singers, with the hope that introducing new modes of music education and appreciation among our youth can help ensure that the incredible arrangements of our early choral pioneers will continue to guide and inspire the next generations of Greek Orthodox faithful.
Note: In accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we regret that we cannot accept submissions from children under the age of 13. Children between the ages of 13 and 17 may participate with legal parental or guardian consent (as indicated via agreement to the Terms and Conditions at the time of video upload).
Does it cost anything to participate?
Participation is absolutely free!
Can I submit more than one video?
Please feel free to submit as many different parts as you can sing! However, please submit only one video per part (and do not merge them before submitting). The upload form will allow you to attach multiple files in one submission. So, if you sing both the soprano and alto parts, you’ll upload two videos; if you sing only the tenor part, you’ll upload just one. Of course you can record as many videos as you wish, and then choose your favorite to submit!
I’m not very tech savvy. Will I be able to do this?
We don’t want anyone to feel intimidated by the process. If you’re having trouble or just don’t know where to start, we recommend asking a friend, relative or fellow parishioner who could assist you in person. Please also feel free to contact us at email@example.com and we’ll do our best to help you!
What’s the timeline for the project?
Submissions are now open through January 20, 2014, after which AXIOS engineers will work to merge many individually recorded voices into a composite a cappella ensemble and create a composite video. The final video will premiere on YouTube at the beginning of Holy Week in April 2014.
Is this a live performance?
While the final video will premiere at a specific time, the performance will not be live. During the submission window (see timeline above), singers will record their parts individually via webcam while watching a specially recorded video of Tikey conducting the piece. AXIOS engineers will then merge these individually recorded voices and videos to create a composite “virtual” ensemble.
I’ve recorded a few versions but my video still isn’t perfect.
Participation is more important than perfection! This project is about bringing people together and paying tribute to Tikey and our choral traditions. Your voice will be joined by many others and we’ll have the capability to edit out stray background noises and obvious flubs. Do follow Tikey’s instructions and the setup guide, but beyond that, just do your best and have fun!
