Watch this instructional video in which Tikey Zes discusses the structure of the piece and the dynamics, tempo and phrasing you will need to follow as you record your part.

KEY POINTS are highlighted on the right side of this page. Please note you do NOT need to memorize them, as they will also be marked on the scrolling sheet music that appears at the bottom of the conductor video (the video of Tikey conducting the hymn that you will watch and listen to while you record your part).

orangestar2key points:

ALL PARTS:

:: Minimize vibrato if possible

:: Pages 1 and 2 should be sung piano, pages 3 and 4 forte

:: On pages 3 and 4, sing more quietly (mezzo forte) when you don’t have the melody

:: No breath between the first “christou” and “metalavete”

:: Breathe between each “athanatou” and “gefsasthe”

:: General note about breathing: Don’t worry if you can’t sing a phrase all the way through without breathing. You can take a breath anywhere you need to EXCEPT where “no breath” is specifically instructed.

TENORS:

:: No breath between second “christou” and “metalavete” (top of page 3)

:: Shorten final half-note of second “athanatou” (top of page 4) as though you were taking a breath with the other parts

BASSES:

:: Shorten final half-note of first “athanatou” (bottom of page 2) as though you were taking a breath with the other parts

:: Shorten final half-note of second “athanatou” (top of page 4) as though you were taking a breath with the other parts
